One thing about myself? I’ve always felt a strange fondness for the universe, and in that moment I was enamoured, my head filled with stars as I stared longingly at the cloudless skies above.
The light wrapped around everything, like a blanket woven from the constellations themselves and I silently sent a prayer that it would last forever. Sabaism was scattered throughout me, and I was well aware it was through him; it was something we always seemed to have in common, and partly how we’d grown to become best friends.
My thoughts drifted to the promising absence of clouds meaning it couldn’t possibly rain. Whilst I appreciated the smell it brought and the plants that it grew, rain in the wilderness always seemed to bother me unless it was the right temperature. Though I usually loved the rain, I hated being soaked to the skin and surrounded by trees, clothes stuck to me and thoughts drenched. Without it, things were simpler.
At his sudden mention of a lake, my eyes drifted back down into the car to see him point in a certain direction—my interest was caught—and I looked around for a few moments before I noticed the water’s surface glistening with the moon. Water was so serene, it almost seemed like the most perfect thing the world could present to us, and most of the time humans seemed to corrupt it.
I sunk back into the car slowly, being brought back down to earth as I looked at him, my eyebrows raised as an idea toyed with my thoughts, “Wanna check it out?” My head tilted in the direction of the lake and I picked up a red vine out of the box that I had previously opened, biting down on it. The taste of sweet cherry exploded in my mouth as I looked back out to the lake, wondering what the brunet’s answer would be.
His adventurous nature seemed to never falter and we soon reached the lake. A small gasp escaped me at the sight and it was followed by an audible curse. It was a mirror melded into the ground, every star above posed as a reflection and I lavished in the sudden thought that in this way I could touch the stars just by running my fingers through the water. The flowers scattered around were like little havens each on their own, buried around pebbles in the earth below.
Stepping into the place was like dreaming in technicolour, time seemed to still, it was where tranquility took over and I was finally at peace with myself and my surroundings. “Oh my god,” the words instinctively rolled off my lips in a soft whisper as I breathed in the nature surrounding me. I was starstruck in a sense, and although I wasn’t what one would call a strong believer, I found the Garden of Eden to be a fitting comparison.
